Sound Thought is a Glasgow-based collective of experimental sound artists, composers, and audio engineers, whose practices include improvisation, collaboration, performance, audiovisual and acoustic composition, field recording, and installation work.

Our aim is to provide a platform for early-career practitioners, postgraduates, and recent graduates, working in experimental sound and music to exhibit their work and build community. We are also passionate about youth education and engagement. Our activities range from producing and promoting gigs and concerts, leading soundwalks, hosting festivals and conferences, presenting an ongoing radio show, delivering workshops for young people, and exhibiting installations. Recent work has explored themes including acoustic ecology, deep listening, immersive audio, and accessibility in experimental music.

Sound Thought has hosted events and activities since 2007, collaborating with venues and arts organisations across Glasgow, including the Centre for Contemporary Arts, The Old Hairdresser’s, Pipe Factory, The Arches, The Glad Cafe, Riverside Museum, LUX Scotland, 1.5 Months, Subcity Radio, eSharp, Glasgow Science Festival, Glasgow Electronic and Audiovisual Media Festival, The Dear Green Bothy, Being Human Festival, Explorathon, Floored Music, Glasgow New Music Expedition, and the University of Glasgow.

Sound Thought was shortlisted for ‘Award for New Music Programme’ in New Music Scotland’s Scottish Awards for New Music 2023.
